Privacy Policy

Short version: I don’t sell your data, I don’t ask you to create an account, and this website doesn’t store anything on your device by itself. But some things on the site come from other companies (mainly Google’s ads), and they can use cookies. Here’s exactly what happens.

This policy covers winluisplus.com, run by Luis (WinLuisPlus) from Spain. If you have any question about your data, write to [email protected].

What this website collects by itself

  • No account needed to read. You can read everything without giving me any personal information. Commenting is optional: if you want to post a comment, you sign in with Discord (see “Comments” below).
  • No cookies from the site itself. The site’s own code doesn’t set cookies. It only remembers two small preferences in your browser’s local storage: the language you picked, and whether you prefer the article walkthrough or the read view. They never leave your device, and clearing your browser data removes them. The search box works entirely inside your browser and doesn’t send what you type anywhere.
  • Server logs. The website runs on my own server. Like every web server, it keeps basic technical logs of which pages were requested and when. Because all traffic reaches it through Cloudflare (see below), these logs don’t contain your IP address.
  • Visit statistics. To see which pages people read and how fast they load, I use Cloudflare Web Analytics (see the table below). It counts visits without cookies and without identifying you.
  • File Checker. The File Checker works entirely inside your browser. Files you check are never uploaded, sent to my server or stored anywhere.
  • Language banner. To offer you the site in your language, my server reads the country code (like “ES”) that Cloudflare adds to every visit and sends it back to your own browser. It isn’t looked up anywhere else, logged or stored. If you close the banner or pick a language, your browser remembers that choice locally so it doesn’t ask again.
  • Live videos and server status. The latest videos on the home page are fetched by my server from YouTube’s public video feed, and the Minecraft server status comes from my server asking the Minecraft server directly. Both are kept for a short time. Your browser doesn’t contact YouTube for this, so it doesn’t learn about your visit.

Ads: Google AdSense

This site shows ads through Google AdSense, which helps pay for running it. Ads appear on most pages, but not on the Windows ISO request page or on error pages. To show them:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website and other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google’s Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors’ cookies at aboutads.info.

If you’re in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, you’ll be asked for your consent before cookies are used for personalized ads, and you can change your choice at any time. You can read more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services in Google’s own explanation.

Other services the site uses

Some parts of the site load from other companies. When that happens, your browser connects to them directly, so they can see your IP address and basic browser information, under their own privacy policies:

ServiceWhat it does hereWhen
CloudflareDelivers the site quickly and protects it from attacks. It may set a strictly necessary security cookie. It also hides the email addresses on the site from spam bots.Every visit
Cloudflare Web AnalyticsCounts page views and measures loading speed: which pages are visited, the site you came from, and your browser, device type and country. It doesn’t use cookies or local storage and doesn’t track you across other websites.Every visit
VirusTotalOnly if you click “Look up on VirusTotal” in the File Checker: your browser opens VirusTotal with the file’s fingerprint (its hash) in the address. The file itself never leaves your computer.Only when you click
Google FontsLoads the fonts the site usesEvery visit
Google AdSenseShows ads (see above)Most pages, but not the Windows ISO page or error pages
YouTubeVideo thumbnails load from YouTube’s image servers. The video player itself (privacy-enhanced mode) only loads after you click play.Pages with videos
Google FormsThe Windows ISO request form. Anything you type in it is sent to Google and to me, so I can answer your request with official Microsoft download links.Windows ISO page
minecraft-server-list.comShows the live status badge of my Minecraft serverMinecraft SMP page

Links to other websites (YouTube, Discord, PayPal, Streamlabs, Microsoft, news sources…) only take you there when you click them. Once you’re on another site, its own privacy policy applies.

Emails and the request form

If you email me or use the Windows ISO request form, I’ll use what you send (like your email address and your message) only to answer you. For ISO requests, that means replying with official download links from Microsoft. I won’t add you to any mailing list or share it with anyone else, and I delete it when it’s no longer needed.

Comments

Articles and tutorials have a comment section powered by Remark42, an open-source comment system that runs on my own server at comments.winluisplus.com. It has no ads and no tracking, and your comments are not shared with any other company.

  • To comment you sign in with Discord. I receive only your username, your avatar and a user ID from that service. I never see your password.
  • What is stored: your comments, your name and avatar, your votes, and the date. Comments are public on the article where you post them.
  • Cookies: signing in sets login cookies from comments.winluisplus.com. They are only used to keep you signed in.
  • Your control: you can edit a comment for a few minutes after posting, and you can ask me to delete your comments or your account data at any time at [email protected]. Remark42 also lets you request your data and delete it yourself from the comment box.
  • Moderation: I remove spam, insults, malware links and anything illegal, and I may block users who break these rules.

Your rights

Under the EU’s data protection law (GDPR) you can ask to access, correct or delete personal data I have about you, object to how it’s used, or ask me to limit its use. Just write to [email protected]. For data handled by Google, Cloudflare or the other services above, you can also contact them directly.

If you think your data isn’t being handled properly, you can file a complaint with Spain’s data protection authority, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (AEPD).

Kids

This website isn’t aimed at children under 14, and I don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child has sent me personal information, write to me and I’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If the site changes (for example, new services), I’ll update this page and the date at the top.
